THE
BOND CARS
Goldfinger!
This film started the hype about James Bond and his cars exclusively equipped
by Q-Branch and especially by the unforgetable Major Boothroyd (portayed
by the late Desmond Llewlyn). Machine guns behind the side-lamps, bullet-proof
windshield, rocket-launcher, a sports car that turns into a submarine and
an ejector seat in a luxury sports car!
.
.
This movie started it all back
in 1964. Sean Connery entered Q-Branch and asked Major Boothroyd about
the condition of his Bentley. But instead of his trusty car, Q showed him
this Aston-Martin DB5,
.
.
equipped with machine guns behind
the side-lamps, enforced collision-bumpers, switchable licence-plates,water-jets
and nail-throwers in the rear bumper , bullet-proof shield in the back,
tyre cutting knifes (like Ben Hur) in the central wheel-lock, smoke generator,
a mobile phone in the driver's door! and last but not least an ejector
seat activated by a hidden switch in the gearshift-lever! The Aston-Martin
company was surprisingly co-operative during the making of the film. They
have delivered several cars and even have done most of the conversions
themselves! The Corgi toy-model was the smash hit for Christmas in 1963.
The Aston-Martin re-appeared in 'Thunderball'
(1964), 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'
(Aston Martin DBS; 1969), 'GoldenEye'
(1995), and recently in 'Tomorrow Never Dies'
